| 説明 | Built circa 1861, this Romanesque Revival-style structure was modified in 1914-15 into an apartment building, after the congregation moved to a new domed Classical Revival-style building on Main Street, which burned in 1965. The building features a rear gable roof with extensive decorative brick corbeling just below the rooflines, the remains of a former front gable flanked by the remains of two bell towers, which were modified and truncated into a single, unified front facade in 1914-15 with the addition of a low-slope hipped roof featuring a decorative bracketed cornice and infill of the front gable to form a front parapet, arched recessed bays on the front facade, decorative stone trim, visual remnants of the former sanctuary windows, now partially filled in to create two levels of windows, with the partially infilled window openings having been infilled further some time later when replacement windows were installed throughout the building, a circular decorative element above the front entrance that displays the date of the building’s alteration, decorative pilasters at the front facade, corners of the towers, and between each window bay on the side facades, and a rough-hewn stone base made of massive blocks. The building presently is known as McDowell Manor, and serves as apartments. |
