| 説明 | Galle (pronounced as French people would pronounce "Gaule") is an important city on the southern west coast of Sri Lanka. In front of the city is a peninsula that was already developed into a fort under the Portuguese. The Dutch extended the fort further, which is why it is called "Dutch Fort" today. There is an idyllic little town behind the protective wall with many nice boutiques and restaurants. This tourist complex remained intact during the 2004 tsunami thanks to the fortifications, while the town was flooded and many lives were lost.
