| 説明 | Nairobi is one of Africa’s fastest growing megacities, with a population of over four million inhabitants. If car-oriented planning continues to dominate, it will lock the city into unsustainable carbon-intensive infrastructure and exacerbate the adverse effects of climate change. In Nairobi, nearly fifty percent of all daily trips are made by walking and cycling. Non-motorized transport (NMT) plays an important role in increasing access to basic services, decongesting cities, improving air quality and promoting healthier lifestyles. Despite NMT being the most popular means of transport in Nairobi, used by nearly half of the residents, key challenges related to poor infrastructure, safety of users and public awareness on usage of NMT facilities remain. This makes it necessary to invest in an integrated transport system, including NMT infrastructure, that serves the needs of Nairobi residents, while safeguarding the environment. |
