| 説明 | c/n 71644Built in 1952 as a standard Canberra B.2, but spent her entire career as a tiral aircraft. Her first use was by Armstrong Siddeley who fitted her with Sapphire engines to carry out afterburner trials for the later marks of Javelin. She then moved to Ferranti where she gained the nose and radar being developed for the Blackburn NA39, later named Buccaneer. After this she joined the Aeroplane & Armament Experimental Establishment (A&AEE) at Boscombe Down and was modified to carry out de-icing trials. This required carrying an internal water tank to feed spray bars under the tail and near the engine exhausts. Water was sprayed onto a trailing aircraft and the results filmed by a camera fitted under the fuselage. She was later used for air to air photography and was eventually retired during 1983. She was then flown to RAF Abingdon and allocated for Battle-Damage Repair training with the maintenance serial 8799M, but after a short time she was saved by the museum and arrived at Newark during November 1985.Newark Air MuseumWinthorpe, Nottinghamshire, UK23rd September 2021 |
