| 説明 | Built in 1887, this Richardsonian Romanesque-style building was designed by W. H. Dennis for Robert Bruce Langdon, and was leased for much of its early history to the George E. Newell Company, a wholesale grocery business, which combined with the Winston, Harper and Fisher Company in 1926 to form the Winston and Newell Company, now known as SuperValu. The George E. Newell Company occupied the building until 1923, when it moved to a warehouse at 3rd Street and North 6th Avenue. The building features a red brick facade with rusticated limestone pilasters between arched openings on the first floor, large decorative arched window transoms on the second floor and terra cotta trim details around the brick arches, pilasters on the upper floors with arched windows on the fifth floor, a large cartouche at the corner of North 1st Avenue and 3rd Street, a decorative parapet with brick corbeling and a simple cornice, cast iron storefront columns, and lion head sculptures between the arches on the second floor. The building features a five-story atrium with marble tile on the interior, and has been adaptively reused as a commercial office building with retail spaces on the first floor. The building is a contributing structure in the Minneapolis Warehouse Historic District, listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1989. |
