| 説明 | Built in 1888, this 8-story Richardsonian Romanesque-style building was designed by Long and Kees as the main Masonic Temple for Minneapolis. The building features a rusticated limestone exterior with circular turrets at the southeast and southwest corners, supported by large corbels, which once were crowned with onion domes, now removed. The building also features window openings and entrances with roman arches, a semi-circular oriel window over the front entrance, decorative trim and brackets, a decorative cornice at the parapet, iron balconies at window openings on the top floor, circular columns and pilasters, and storefronts at ground level. The side and rear of the building not easily visible from the street are clad in buff brick, and feature rectangular windows. The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1975, owing to its architectural significance. The building today functions as the Hennepin Center for the Arts, with 17 visual and performing arts organizations calling the building home, and in 2011 was linked via contemporary additions with the adjacent Cowles Center in the old Shubert Theater, moved next door to the building in 1999. |
