説明Christopher Smith also designed the Roxy theatre on Anzac Highway which was built in 1937 at a cost of over £10,000. It accommodated 1,010 movie goers. The interior had a bright Art Deco colour scheme, concealed lighting and gold screen curtains. The foyer had a floor in the new terrazzo and a soda fountain for those sitting in the stalls. There was a separate lounge area for those sitting in the dress circle. With the arrival of TV in 1959 its patronage declined and it closed in 1961 and has had other commercial uses since then. Christopher Smith was the architect of the New Austral theatre in Naracoorte 1935, the stunning and almost fanciful Art Deco Ozone theatre at Semaphore 1929, the narrow York cinema in Rundle Street Adelaide in 1921 with seating for 2,000 (now demolished to widen Gawler Place). It cost £112,000 for this theatre and eight story building. In its day it was described as a picture palace. Smith also designed the New Star theatre at Unley next to the Soldiers Memorial Park. It opened in 1928 and was demolished to make way for the Unley Shopping Centre. He was also the architect of the theatre in the Main Street of Kadina, the former National theatre in Victor Harbor, and the Garden theatre (1926) for Colonel Light Gardens on Goodwood Road which is now a chemist. One of his earlier Art Deco theatres was the National theatre on Prospect road erected in 1923. He also designed the Murray Bridge picture theatre, the now demolished Star theatre on Norwood Parade, the Palais theatre on Jetty road Glenelg and the Rialto theatre at Alberton.
