説明64 King William Street. This is probably the most intricate Art Deco building in the city square mile. This was the Sands and McDougall with its narrow frontage to King William Street. The façade is cement rendered with vertical lines, amazing Lionel Bruer and Norman Fisher but was probably designed by an apprentice articled architect named Russell Ellis who was articled to Lionel Bruer. This stylish Art Deco façade is just that done in 1933. It was added to an old stone building designed by architect Daniel Garlick in 1889. The façade has pilasters to emphasise the vertical lines and decoration around the lettering with a parapet with a shell fan and radiating three dimensional lines from a central round ornament. These are the acroterions with sunrays radiating from the end ones. The round central ornamental render work has a rearing horse with the words invicta (Latin for undefeated).
