| 説明 | I've previously looked at this enigmatic boulder, a stray in a field of ice-age sand. It's a metamorphic rk, but not one I've seen anywhere around here. Shrug, random debris from the Franciscan melange? But we've had rain, which filled the little pool you see, a ±1-ft dia hole. The Ancients liked their mortars in isolated, treeless places, to spot intruders? Breeze and view? Who knows? There's the start to a second mortar near this, but not obvious on this photo. Location is near the Mar Vista trailhead on the coastal trail S from New San Simeon.Oh, and the bear-shaped shadow is me, standing on my head (virtually), so we could actually see this little feature! |
