| 説明 | There's a story with this picture--Our weather finally warmed up and it was time to get out the deck furniture. My deck predates pressure-treated lumber, so every year I wash it and put on a coat of wood preservative before I put furniture on it. Yesterday I scrubbed the deck down and let it dry. Today I headed for the store to buy the wood preservative. I had four gallons, two under each arm and one in each hand. As I was crossing the parking lot at the hardware store, a young woman came up and asked, "Is that for a deck?" I said yes and she asked, "Are you putting it on yourself?" I said yes. Her husband hovered in the background, a bit embarrassed, I think, that his wife had accosted a stranger. "Have you done it before?" she continued, and I said I had done it for years. Then she said that she and her husband had been given a quote of over $2500 to wash and seal her deck. "Now don't take this the wrong way," she said, looking at my grey hair, "but I figure if you can do it, I can do it." And she nodded at her husband and they walked purposefully into the hardware store. So as I was putting on the deck finish, I caught my reflection in my sliding glass door and decided to capture the scene to remind myself of my shining moment as a do-it-yourselfer role model. |
