| 説明 | A large owl around 50 cms tall and sighted in thick canopy cover. The Owl is exclusive to India and due to the Mottled body colors, is hard to spot without a call. It is known as a strong predator and is a true Nocturnal Owl unlike several others which are mostly twilight / crepuscular. On an earlier visit deep into the forest, we heard 3 of them and they later flew right above us.We reached the general area where they could be present by 6.30 AM and waited. After about 30 mins, other birds in the area like the Parakeets and Drongoes started a big ruckus and we realized the Owls were around now. They don't usually stray far from their base territory. This is the nesting season for most of the tree based Indian birds, while the raptors and Owls usually nest during the winters, between Nov-Apr season. So the birds are quite wary of the Owls who would like a nice meal of the little chicks. We watched it fly around several large trees for a while, but again, getting a clear shot was an impossibility due to the thick canopy and low light. So we enjoyed the birds presence and calls as much as we can and after around 30-40 mins after the first sighting, the birds just disappeared deeper into the large trees that surrounded the area. Thanks in advance for your views and feedback. |
