説明 | Killdeer are usually shore birds, but they also travel. They nest directly on the ground and lay four eggs. Both parents take turns sitting on the eggs. When the eggs hatch, the young can run around and are covered with fluffy feathers. They aren't blind and helpless like m any birds who nest in trees. The birds don't seem much bothered by people nearby, although they are known to pull a broken-wing act if someone gets too close to the nest. But I got pretty close without incident. Two eggs have already hatched and the young are out gallivanting. Two remain behind, just to the left of the bird and almost impossible to see until you're right on top of them. |
