(Chrysocarpum) bulbosum Linnæus 1753 and C. (Chærophyllum) hirsutum Linnæus 1753, contains chærophylline, falcarinol, falcarinone and other scarcely studied, probably glycosidally bound toxins. Its sap can induce contact dermatitis and persistent rashes; if consumed, gastroenteritis, drowsiness, vertigo, cardiomyopathy may occur. Human poisonings have seldom been observed as it lacks aromatic essential oils of other edible Apiaceæ; symptoms in pigs and cattle are similar to those caused by Lolium temulentum Linnæus 1753: staggering gait, unsteady stance, apathy, severe exhausting colic and possible death.
