| 説明 | This bust belongs to the upper part of a statue of Antinous, the young man born in Bithynia, favorite of the emperor Hadrian, who died at a young age in 130 AD in Egypt. In this replica the soft and smooth features of his face contrast with the chiaroscuro of his thick hair, arranged in wavy locks ending in curls that descend to the nape where they are gathered in a knot. His eyes, narrow and elongated, have a look of languid sadness, a common feature in the portraits of Antinous. Although only the upper part of the original statue survives, this copy portrays the young man in the features of the "Apollo of the Tiber" ( Selçuk, TR, Ephesos-Museum, or fRome, Palazzo Massimo, Museo Nazionale Romano), a statuary model created in Greece in the fifth century BC, as evidenced by the similarity with a statue of Antinous in Delphi Archaeological Museum, more easily reading as it is best preserved. This latter replica portrays the young man, naked and standing on his left leg, his right arm is extended and dropped to his side, while his left forearm is bent back. This particular articulation of the body can be found in the Capitoline bust. The presence of a large prop at the height of the left armpit, which, perhaps, had the function of supporting the forearm or hand, endorses the suggestion on its belonging to the "Apollo of the Tiber" sculptural type.Source: Museum WEB site Greek marble Roman sculptureH. 60 cm. 130 – 138 ADMusei Capitolini, Centrale Montemartini, Inv.
