| 説明 | Originally developed by the US Navy to meet the kamikaze threat, the Lark was a solid-fuel boosted, liquid-fuelled surface-to-air missile. Launched from the deck of a ship, it could reach Mach 0.85 and carried a 100lb warhead a range of 38 miles. It was not completed in time to see active service during WW2 but was built from 1946 to 1950 and used as a test missile, giving US Navy personnel valuable experience in handling and operating missiles. This USAF test example was transferred to the Smithsonian Institute from the US Navy in 1971 and is now part of the National Air and Space Museum. It is seen on display in the James S. McDonnell Space Hangar at the Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center Washington Dulles International Airport, Chantilly, Virginia7th May 2015 |
