DO NOT FEEL YOU HAVE TO COMMENT.Thanks.The original name of the structure (Hadrianeum) was changed to Castel Sant'Angelo after a vision Pope Gregory the Great had in 590 when he saw an angel hovering over the mausoleum and sheathing his sword, heralding the end of the plague which was then raging in Rome. This is the original statue of the Archangel Michael that was place on top of the Castel, now replaced with a newer one. |
