| 説明 | Church of St Laurence, Over Peover / Peover Superior, Cheshire, begun in 14c as a daughter chapel to Rostherne. The three stage tower was built of brick in 1739. It holds 3 bels dated c 1500 , 1626 and 1669.The nave and chancel were rebuilt in brick by William Turner in 1811 leaving insitu the two existing north and south Mainwaring chapels, built of stone. There is also a south porch and north vestry. In the South Chapel which they built, lie the alabaster effigies of Randle Mainwaring 1456 and wife Margery Venables www.flickr.com/gp/52219527@N00/93U215The North Chapel www.flickr.com/gp/52219527@N00/P7V13V was built in 1648 by Ellen Minshull widow of Philip Mainwaring to house their monument. www.flickr.com/gp/52219527@N00/2hx8R4 To the north of the chancel altar is the tomb of John Mainwaring 1410 & wife Margaret Stafford which was moved out of the church for 50 years during and after the rebuilding. www.flickr.com/gp/52219527@N00/9f754S . also in the north chapel are Sir John Mainwaring 1515 & wife Katherine Honford with their 15 children all individually named, www.flickr.com/gp/52219527@N00/9jQSv7. Also their son Philip Mainwaring 1573 & wife Anne Leyster 1587 www.flickr.com/gp/52219527@N00/i676K9The Mainwarings were here beginning with Ranulphus who was given 15 lordships in Cheshire by William the Conqueror including "Peure now called Over Peover", and which was the seat of the family for many generations until the last male heir died in the 18c, when it continued into the 20c via Catherine Mainwaring and her husband Thomas Wettenhall who took the Mainwaring name.
