| 説明 | Built circa 1908, the Mission Revival-style Martanna Apartments were built by Martin Durrett and named for himself and his wife, Anna Durrett. In keeping with the early character of the street, the three buildings of the Martanna Flats Apartments are set back behind a broad, tree-shaded lawn. The buff brick buildings feature triple-decker porches on the south facade, a rough-hewn stone base, red tile roofs, Spanish-style gable parapets, tuscan columns of varying sizes, decorative brackets, and open roman arches. Originally housing approximately two large apartments on each floor of each building, making for a total of about 18 apartments, the units have since been broken up into a total of 35 smaller apartments. The buildings, located along Wallace Avenue between Eastern Avenue and Oakland Avenue in Covington’s Wallace Woods neighborhood, are contributing structures in the Wallace Woods Area Historic District, listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1983. |
