| 説明 | Someries Castle, Hyde, Bedfordshire. All that remains of this site are the gatehouse (incorportaing a chapel and lodge) - the rest is earthworks and the whole site is a scheduled ancient monument (not a listed building). The name of it comes from William de Somery (of Dudley), whose residence stood here in the 13th century, but the building could not have been described as a "castle". It is one of the earliest brick buildings in England.GOC Hertfordshire's walk on 14 April 2018. This was a 9.8-mile circular walk in and around the villages and hamlets of Breachwood Green, Colemans Green, Darleyhall and Wandon End in Hertfordshire; Someries and Chiltern Green in Bedfordshire; and Peter's Green, Perry Green and Bendish, back in Hertfordshire. I led the walk, which was attended by 13 people (including me). You can view my other photos of this event, find out more about the Gay Outdoor Club or see my collections. |
