| 説明 | Constructed in the late 19th Century at the corner of Mills Avenue and Carter Avenue, this brick masonry Queen Anne-style structure was originally home to a corner store, with a retail shop on the first floor and two sizable apartments above. The building features a prominent turret with “porthole”-style dormer windows on the third floor, lintels with carved grapevine details, and a half-mansard roof that wraps the facades of the building along Mills Avenue and Carter Avenue. The building was constructed as the west side of Norwood was developing into a thriving neighborhood, adjacent to the current site of the old St. Elizabeth Catholic Church. This is one of several mixed-use buildings that can be found at the street corners of Carter Avenue within a few blocks, once forming a small neighborhood business district. Today, though vacant, the building is slated for adaptive reuse. |
