| 説明 | Built in 1893 to house the Sisters of Charity, whom operated and staffed the nearby St. Elizabeth Parochial School, this Italianate-style building was their third and final home at the parish. Founded in 1887, St. Elizabeth Parish started out in a combination school and church building in the vicinity of the present structures, before seeing the arrival of the Sisters of Charity in 1889 to run the operations of the parochial school, with the rear of the structure’s basement serving as the quarters for the nuns. In 1891, a dormitory was provided in part of the first floor, before this structure was constructed in 1893. From 1893 until 1974, the Sisters of Charity staffed the adjacent St. Elizabeth Parochial School, until, due to declining enrollment, it was closed and consolidated with the nearby St. Matthew Parochial School, forming Holy Trinity School (now Immaculate Conception Academy). In 1994, due to the closure of St. Elizabeth Parish due to declining attendance, the last of the Sisters of Charity left the convent, and it has since been converted into a private residence. |
