| 説明 | After a long hiatus full of folding but short on posting, I have completed this year's Halloween project: a Möbius deltahedron (more specifically, the variant having dodecahedral symmetry, referred to as a "120-Deltahedron A" at the bottom of this page.) Composed of 120 equilateral triangles, the polyhedron feels hefty to the touch. The unit breakdown is trivial: - 60 Equilateral-triangular Flat Unit II modules (from Kunihiko Kasahara's Origami Omnibus, page 204.) These were folded from Halloween-themed scrapbook paper--though this stock was thick and held creases poorly, the 3-pocket triangle units needed fewer creases than the more complex 3-flap variety. - 60 Regular Triangle modules (from Tomoko Fuse's Kusudama Origami, page 70.) These were folded from normal origami paper and the colors chosen to match the scrapbook paper as closely as possible. Since each of these triangles provided three flaps, the total number of flaps provided by these units was 180--precisely the number of edges in the deltahedron. As a result, no additional joining tabs were needed to complete the structure. Doskey's Möbius deltahedron page also informed the coloring pattern that I employed for this model. I was hoping to give each 10-triangle "pentagonal star" its own unique scrapbook paper design, but unfortunately I only had enough scrapbook paper to fold eight triangles per design rather than ten. Though this project contained more units than any other Halloween project I've folded, it also proceeded very quickly. I committed myself to folding one or two "stars" of each color every weeknight, so I was folding the final module within a week and a half, finishing more than a week in advance of the holiday proper. |
