説明An extension to the Luas Green Line at Cherrywood in south Co Dublin was officially opened this weekend. The new 7.5km line cost €300m to build and is expected to add over two million passenger journeys a year to the tram network. There are now nine new stops on the line. They are at Central Park, Glencairn, The Gallops, Leopardstown Valley, Ballyogan Wood, Carrickmines, Laughanstown, Cherrywood and Brides Glen. There are also two ghost stations (they have been built but are not being used). The Luas is a light rail or tram system serving Dublin. In 2007, the system carried 28.4 million passengers, a growth of 10% since 2006.There are currently two Luas lines. The Green line commenced operations on 30 June 2004, while the Red Line opened on 26 September 2004. It is one of 450 light rail systems operating in cities around the world. As of October 2010, the system has 49 stations and 34 kilometers (21 mi) of track. The Luas tram system is operated by Veolia Transport, under tender from the Railway Procurement Agency (RPA). It is a major part of the Dublin Transportation Office's strategy (2000–2016).The network currently comprises two routes:Red Line: The Point to central Tallaght, 16.5 kilometers (10 mi)Green Line: St. Stephen's Green to Cherrywood, 17.5 kilometers (11 mi)The Red Line runs in an east-west direction through Dublin's Northside, then crosses the River Liffey and travels south-west to the heavily-populated suburb of Tallaght.
