説明 | A model of the Berserk Class monitor HSwMS Hildur at the Swedish Maritime Museum, Stockholm, June 2010. Seven Berserks were launched in 1872-75 (Hildur in 1875) for the Archipelago Sea and Lake Malaren based on a proposal by John Ericsson (an American citizenof Swedish birth responsible for the USS Monitor). The ships had a displacement of 453 tons, measured 136 ft x 26 ft x 8.5 ft., were heavily armoured and were armed with 1x9.4” gun in a turret. They were re-armed in the 1890’s and 1900’s with a 4.7” and three 57mm guns. All were still active in WWI and then discarded in 1919-22; several, including the Hildur, were converted into oil barges. |
