| 説明 | This Spanish Revival-style brick church was designed by Savannah-based architects Robinson and Reidy, and was built between 1909 and 1911 as part of the St. Benedict the Moor Catholic Mission, founded after the Civil War in 1871, during Reconstruction, to serve the African-American community that came to inhabit the Lincolnville area in the latter half of the 19th Century. The building currently functions as part of the Cathedral Basilica of St. Augustine parish, as desegregation following the Civil Rights Movement in the 1960s led to lesser importance being put on racially segregated institutions in the city, including this church. |
