Blended online and face-to-face courses, self-guided coursework, non-credit workshops, as well as opening class materials up to the broader public in sharable and modifiable ways are just a few of these approaches. Contrast MIT's OpenCourseWare, NYU's Open Education pilot, and other university-based open education efforts with true DIY community workshops like Pumping Station: One in Chicago. Learn how all these can work in your favor: aiding recruitment and retention, supporting faculty, and forging community ties.PresenterAnne PetersenDirector of Digital Marketing, University of Illinois at ChicagoAnne leads online and digital marketing efforts at the University of Illinois at Chicago. A Web director with an emphasis on usability, Anne worked within the College of Applied Health Sciences at UIC before joining the central Marketing and Communications team. She launched a new site and a new Facebook design within her first five months. Before UIC, Anne headed electronic communications at Penn State's Undergraduate Admissions Office. She also taught at Penn State for three years, using edupunk methods before the introduction of the term. Anne serves at HighEdWeb's official photographer.
