説明 | c/n HP67/40Built in 1948 and served first as a base transport for Dishforth, Topcliffe and Lyneham. She then flew with 48 Squadron and 242 Operational Conversion Unit (242OCU) before finally ending up with the Bomber Command Bombng School, which was later renamed the Strike Command Bombing School. She was retired to the excellent museum at RAF Colerne in January 1974, but sadly the station closed in 1976 and the collection was dispersed. The Hastings was moved to the Catterick Fire School and was finally scrapped around 1989. In 1985, however, the Yorkshire Air Museum salvaged the centre wing section for their Halifax recreation and this is one of the outer wing section which came along too. Its upper surface has now been painted in WW2 camo, which is fitting for the location. The underside is silver and still carries the correct serial TG536.Yorkshire Air MuseumElvington, North Yorkshire, UK.1st September 2020 |
