| 説明 | Traditional Hanoi (Vietnamese?) architecture. Very narrow frontage, but the house extends quite a ways into the rear--small, deep lots are the rule. This is because in the old days, Vietnamese used to tax properties by how wide they were, rather than by total square meters. You can also find a variation on this theme in many New Orleans homes, the so-called 'shogun' or 'double shotgun' houses so prevalent in the Garden and Uptown districts of the city. |
