| 説明 | The Henrichenburg shiplift was able to lift canal vessels up to 600 tons. The difference of the water levels between the lower and the upper part of the canal (Dortmund-Ems-Kanal) was 14 meters (42ft). The shiplift was put into service in 1899 and replaced by a larger and more modern construction in 1970. Today the entire site is a museum. Here you see the powerhouse of the site with a reflection of the shiplift construction. Better don't ask me for technical details, but the mechanism of the device somehow made clever use of the buoyancy force. |
