| 説明 | Wilson. This former town was set up in 1881 as a service point along the Great Northern Railway to Hawker. It soon had a store and a hotel and a station master’s house at the railway and rail workers cottages. The publican had a well sunk to 100 feet in depth to provide water for the town. The government school opened in 1882 but prior to this school was held in the Methodist church. In 1900 it also had a butcher, greengrocer, blacksmith, saddler and carpenter. It had cricket and tennis teams and the population was 73 people plus 20 on farms nearby. A War Memorial Hall was erected in 1921 but by 1928 drought was killing the town as land was being used for pastoralism not wheat farming. In 1942 the school and hotel closed, the church was dismantled and moved. Dwellings were vacated soon after and the figures below show the demise of wheat farming at Wilson after 1883 and when average rainfall returned.
