説明 | Dating from AD 50 to as late as AD 273.Limestone.From Palmyra, Syria.Top left to bottom right:Limestone bust from a Palmyrene funerary relief; woman wearing fillet adorned with quatrefoil and acanthus patterns and ear-rings having three drops suspended from a horizontal bar; triple necklace of beads and ovoid ornaments; from centre a medallion hanging from which suspend three strands ending in trefoils; three similar trefoils hang from brooches on left shoulder; right hand holds mantle and veil garment; rich bracelet with quatre foil ornament and finger rings; left hand holds spindle and distaff; inscription; 4 ll; cracked or repaired. Inscription reads Tamma, daughter of Shamshigeram, son of Maliku, son of Nassum.Limestone bust from a Palmyrene funerary relief; half length; carved with beardless man; wears sleeved tunic with braided edges and groups of comb-pattern bars at the joined seams; over this a chlamys secured on the right shoulder; on the head a wreathed modius with a miniature bust in front; holds in left hand a pyxis containing fruit, embossed with bucrania and wreaths; on the right, a balsainary; behind, in the space to left of head is a small figure wearing peplos of a woman, holding in left hand, a duck; on the left is a bunch of grapes; head broken. Inscription reads Moqimu, son of Gediah, (son of) Ate'aqab the servant.Limestone bust from a Palmyrene funerary relief; carved; matron wearing turban, veil, fillet and on her neck, a necklace and a chain with a pendant; on her wrist, a bracelet with an oval bezel, and a ring on the little finger of the left hand, which supports the chin; inscription on slab behind figure. Inscription reads Aqmé, daughter of Habazi.Limestone bust from a Palmyrene funerary relief; carved; half length; bearded man; standing against a background of a cloth hung from two buckles which each clasp a feather or leaf; on right hand are two rings on little finger and a third on the index finger; holds strip of writing material; eyeballs still coloured; inscription 3 II; it reads Moqimu, son of Moqimu.Limestone bust from a Palmyrene funerary relief; matron wearing chiton, mantle and veil, elaborately chased fillet and profuse jewellery highlighted with gold pigment; from necklace hang two medallions; two busts in high relief of women (?) wearing crowns; inscription; 6 ll; incomplete; large sections of arms lost. Inscription reads Herta, daughter of Ogilu, son of Salmôi, wife of Rabel, son of Yarhai Yat.Limestone bust from a Palmyrene funerary relief; carved in relief with a beardless man wearing toga; in left hand on index finger he has a ring; he carries a leaf rather like a fern (or a feather); emphasis laid on flesh of neck. |
