| 説明 | Belize City, 1975. Entrance to the Bliss Institute, which at the time served as museum, event venue, and research library. I spent much of my free time at the library upstairs. I went to some events downstairs with my parents in the evenings, including a pleasant production of Gilbert & Sullivan's "H.M.S. Pinafore", and a talk by Mayanist Dennis Puleston. Puleston suggested the Classic Maya got much of their nutrition from the ramon breadnut tree, which the modern Maya only eat if maize and other crops fail. I was later told he changed his mind after actually trying some. Puleston would tragically die 3 years later - struck by lightning atop "El Castillo" at Chichen Itza. |
