| 説明 | By a strange quirk of fate, my travel company had arranged for me to drive all the way from Chitwan (see Chitwan album) via Kathmandu all the way to the tourism headquarters of Nepal- Pokhara. The road was so so, but the so called highway was only two lane, and had sharp curves in places due to which traffic on one side was stopped frequently to allow long articulated trucks and long tourist buses to negotiate the curves without hindrance. A local holiday also meant scores of motorcycles zipping into and out of the traffic all the time, adding to the frustration. No wonder therefore that my good driver- guide was not happy about it, as it meant a 9 hour drive in those conditions at a stretch. Oh well. Our first stop for the day was for tea and a snack- I had had breakfast at my hotel in Chitwan- but my guide had not. This highway cafe was located with a viewing gallery overlooking the Narayani river. So this is a shot from there, while waiting for our snack and tea. There is a long suspended pedestrian bridge at the far end, which you can hardly see in the picture- but it is very much there, at dead centre. The Gandaki River (also known as the Narayani and the Gandak) is one of the major rivers of Nepal and a left bank tributary of the Ganges in India. In Nepal the river is notable for its deep gorge through the Himalayas. It has a total catchment area of 46,300 sq. km., most of it in Nepal. (en-route from Kathmandu to Pokhara, Oct/ Nov. 2019) |
