| 説明 | The relief shows the deceased Lupercus, ΛΟΥΡΕΡΚΩ. He was probably a "Thraex" or Thracian, a type of Roman gladiator armed in the Thracian style. He appears almost fully armed, just about to start a new fight. His hair is very voluminous, and smooth strands fall on his forehead. He exhibits a short, shaggy full beard. He wears a "subligaculum" and a "balteus", a quilted "manica" on the right arm, and greaves. In his left hand he holds a small curved rectangular shield adorned with a Medusa head, and, in his right hand, the "sica", characteristic dagger of the Thraces. To his left, a boy, perhaps a servant, holding his helmet decorated with a gryphon crest, completes the scene. The boy's name was Apollonis, ΑΠΟΛΛΟΝΙϹ: so the inscription over his head. In addition, an almost miniature dog jumps up on the left leg of Lupercus.Source: Hölscher T., Sverkos K.E., Die Figürlichen Grabstelen im Römischen Thessaloniki”Funerary stele150 -200 ADThessaloniki, National Archaeological Museum |
