| 説明 | Royal Observer Corps Open Day at RAF Thorney Island, Hampshire in 1965.Hastings WD495 seen from the top of Blackburn Beverley XH124. The resident 36 Squadron Hastings C2 was retired in 1968 and wound up on the fire dump at RAF Colerne.Blackburn Beverley XH124 of 47 Squadron was retired to Shawbury in 1967 and donated (flown) to the RAF Museum collection at Hendon in June 1968, as the last powered, fixed-wing aircraft to land there.The museum opened in 1972 with XH124 displayed outside but terminal corrosion (and no possibility of it being preserved inside) led to it being broken up for scrap in 1989.Photo: Dick Gilbert, RAF Thorney Island, 10 October 1965. |
