| 説明 | Rupanyup. This grain farming town was surveyed in 1873 but not named Rupanyup until 1876. By 1887 it had two flour mills, three hotels and a railway connection to Stawell. In 1909 Australian General Sir John Monash, the famous World War One general designed three concrete silos for the town’s flour mill when this was very new technology. Behind the metal silos is the heritage listed railway station which is now used for community functions. Russian mural artist Julia Volchkova created the silo art here with a focus on the youth of Rupanyup. The work is done in monochromatic colours and features a young Aussie rule male football player in his football jersey and a young woman in her netball tunic. This is the only Victorian silo art on metal silos instead of concrete ones. |
