| 説明 | The Atala butterfly has a "warning" coloration throughout its life cycle. As a caterpillar or larva, it is brightly colored with a toxic chemical to warn birds, lizards, and others to stay away. It is distasteful to these creatures of prey! Atala was named by a Cuban zoologist after the Native American heroine of an 1801 French novella, Atala, ou Les Amours de deux sauvages dans le desert. (Wikipedia information)A Photowalk through the lovely Naples Botanical Gardens on a beautiful Sunday afternoon in January. How nice to do this with friends from Flickr and from across the country! Maria Coleman was so gracious to invite us for a tour of these beautiful gardens in her area. Martha Thornburg was in the area from Seattle and I come down, occasionally, from Iowa. We became educational tech friends and acquaintances from over a decade ago, thanks to the educational media that took off around 2005. |
