| 説明 | Second quarter of the 1st Century AD.Fresco.Pompeii, House of the Golden Bracelet (Regio VI.17.42).Lush garden with different types of plants: oleanders, strawberry trees, pines, irises, enriched with fountains, herms and various species of birds, such as nightingales, crows, and egrets.Room 32 of the House of the Golden Bracelet was a large oecus, or dining room, datable to the second quarter of the 1st Century AD, frescoed with scenes of a luxuriant garden on three levels: the lower section with depictions of various plants; the middle, delimited at the bottom by fencing, showing an imaginary garden with several species of birds flying or perched on branches, small pillars with herms and fountians with shell-shaped basins, and the uppper decorated with festoons and theatrical masks hanging against a part of clear sky. The precise depictions of the kinds of plants that could not coexist in nature suggests that the scene is to be interpreted symbolically in accordance with a fashion first seen in the underground chamber of the luxurious Villa of Livia north of Rome. |
