| 説明 | This is one of Planet's views of the planet (blog).The first complete and current map of all roads (red) and buildings (blue) on the planet, from Planet’s constellation of hundreds of Dove small satellites. Fascinating patterns of concentration and a similar swath of emptiness across Russia that looks like the Sahara Desert. Here is a video of a zoom out from SF to the whole Earth.Having launched hundreds of satellites, Planet now raster scans the entire land mass of Earth every day. In anticipation of today’s firehose of Earth observation data, I have been keen to see the workflow move from a directory of known targets to “search and discovery” driven by machine learning. To make best use of this tsunami of imagery, we have to turn to the super-human pattern recognition tools of deep learning (convolutional neural nets). We can detect all new roads and building construction, daily. We can count every tree on Earth every day. But it could be anything. You could train the Planet Analytic engine on a class of chemical plant or fracking well pad, and then run the algorithm globally to find all instances, known and unknown, of similar activity.What would you want to look for? |
