| 説明 | www.catedraldevalencia.es/en/index.phpSource : Valencia CathedralThe portico is sculpted in polished alabaster, following the designs of Yáñez de la Almedina (like in the door frames of the high altarpiece and in the organ furniture). It is one of the first and best examples of the Roman or Spanish renaissance style (around 1500)The lower arches are noteworthy, as well as the composition of pilasters and arches, leant on the columns and entablature, bas-reliefs with vertical motifs and a rich variety of eagles, roses and plants. The high-relief of alabaster depicting the Resurrection of the Lord is made by Gregorio de Biguerny. It was placed in that place in early 16th century. It still keeps remains of the polychrome and of the gilding that decorated the original appearance.Retro choirReconstructed in the 18th century though it keeps elements from the original one. It is a monument to the Holy Eucharist.Relic of St.Vincent the MartyrSt. Vincent, deacon of Saragossa, was tortured in Valencia during the persecution of Diocletian in 304. His worship spread across the Church rapidly and was considered one of the main representative saints of Spain.Towards 1104, the Bishop of Valencia of the time went on a pilgrimage to the Holy Land and carried with him the left arm mummified of St. Vincent. As this ecclesiastic died suddenly in Bari (Italy), the relic was left there and was being passed on up to being in possession of Mr. Pietro Zampieri from Vigonovo (Venice). In 1970 he gave it to the Cathedral together with the bronze reliquary made in a Venecian style. |
