| 説明 | Acanthus spinosus (southern Europe native) 2019 photo - Common Name: Bear's Breeches, Size: 4x3ft., white, snapdragon -like flowers hooded by spiny, reddish-purple bracts, USDA Hardiness Zone 5, Michigan Bloom Month 6c, In Garden Bed V3 for 5.2 YEARS (Crow). Planted in 2014.Missouri Botanical Garden: Acanthus spinosus, commonly called bear's breeches, is a clump-forming perennial which is grown as much for its attractive foliage as for its architecturally bold flower spikes. Features pure white, snapdragon-like flowers enclosed (hooded and subtended) by spiny, reddish-purple bracts and arranged in vertical rows on substantial flower spikes which rise well above the foliage mound to 3-4' tall. Blooms from late spring into mid summer. Deeply-cut, arching, glossy green, spiny, thistle-like leaves (2-3' long) form an ornamental mound of long-stalked, basal foliage which usually remains attractive throughout the growing season.Planted this in 2014, and finally bloomed big time in 2018. No blooms in 2019. I think it almost died last winter and took all summer to recover.#Acanthus #Bear'sBreechesMy other photos of this plantSatellite View using Google Maps |
