| 説明 | An old church with a nice tradition.Corstorphine was, in the long past, a village lying to the west of the Scottish city of Edinburgh. In more modern times the sprawl of the city has incorperated the old village and it's now simply a suburb. However Corstorphine has a long history of it's own and a good place to see part of that is at the old Parish Church. There has been a church here for more than five and a half centuries. In the early days the area was close to a loch and there was a large area of marshy land nearby.Above the great east window of the chancel (top left in the photo) is a niche containing a lamp, which guided travelers to safety on dark nights. The tradition has been continued and to this day a light shines from dusk till dawn every day, even though the marsh has long been drained and built upon. |
