| 説明 | During the last few years, large wildland fires have occurred across south central Idaho; this has been particularly true on lands managed by the Twin Falls District BLM. Within the Jarbidge Field Office, these fires have burned thousands of acres of Idaho’s rangelands. In 2005, it was the Clover Fire; in 2006 it was the Sailor Cap Fire and in 2007, the Murphy Complex Fires. The information contained in this booklet is designed to provide background about the fires, acres burned, acres rehabilitated and the collaboration between partners involved. On July 15, 2005, lightning began what was at the time, one of the largest wildland fires in the Jarbidge Field Office - the Clover Fire. It burned 193, 000 acres of public, private, state and land used for training purposes by the Mountain Home Air Force Base. It involved grazing allotments, sage-grouse habitat, numerous cultural sites and sensitive plant species. It also burned much of the Saylor Creek Herd Management Area, triggering an emergency gather of the wild horse herd. The Sailor Cap Fire ignited on August 23, 2006 and burned 62,000 acres of public, private and state land. It affected grazing allotments, sage-grouse habitat, and cultural sites. The 653,000-acre Murphy Complex Fires started July 16-17, 2007 as a combination of six lightning-caused wildfires in south-central Idaho and north-central Nevada. Fanned by high winds in dry, hot conditions, the wildfires spread quickly through brush, grass and juniper. They burned on public, private and state land, threatening residences, commercial properties and businesses. The wildfires also threatened critical training resources at the Mountain Home Air Force Base, as well as grazing allotments; bull trout, big horn sheep and sage-grouse habitat; deer/elk winter range; riparian and watershed areas; sensitive plant species; and numerous cultural sites. The Murphy Complex Fires were contained August 2 after burning 653,000 acres (483,000 acres in Idaho and 170,000 acres in Nevada). It the largest wildfire complex in Idaho since the 1910 fires. The resulting Emergency Stabilization and Rehabilitation (ES&R) project was unprecedented. |
