説明 | Varying amounts of snowfall on Steens Loop Road on the way up to Kiger Gorge, Oct. 1, 2019. BLM volunteer photo: Gary KegelIn some spots there is no snow, but towards the summit the road has several inches of hard packed snow, according to Kegel, the BLM volunteer campground host at Page Springs.Steens Mountain, one of the largest fault-block mountains in the country, is 30 miles long, more than 9,700 feet tall, and big enough to catch its own weather.Clouds can build up along the western slope of the mountain, bringing rain or snow. This capturing effect is what keeps Steens lush and cool while the Alvord Desert, directly to the east, remains hot and dry. With the potential to experience several seasons of weather within a short time period, potential visitors are always recommended to check with the local BLM office in Burns for the latest conditions: 541-573-4400📍 How to visit Steens: on.doi.gov/2HXRxM6 Photo archive: goo.gl/VOkTFg🌐 360° hike to Wildhorse Lake: youtu.be/8kOl_amfWHo Fly in a glider above Steens: goo.gl/HCRv6G🚵♂ Bikepacking over Steens: goo.gl/WKDYrY🌐 360° SUP at Fish Lake: goo.gl/CcMD3x |
