| 説明 | The first week in October marks the annual tribute to fallen firefighters. Historically, during this week the BLM Fire Honor Guard travels to Washington, D.C., to pay tribute to fallen firefighters. The week started with internal training for protocols and procedures regarding flag handling, escort commander duties and other ceremonial tasks. On Wednesday, October 2, at 10:00 a.m. the BLM Honor Guard participated in the annual ceremonial wreath laying at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at Arlington National Cemetery. Attendees included BLM and fire leadership from headquarters as well as select participants from BLM field offices. The National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Weekend, October 4-6, features special programs in Emmitsburg, MD, for families and co-workers, along with public ceremonies. Emmitsburg is the home of the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Park located on the campus of the National Fire Academy. At the heart of the park, is a stone monument encircled by plaques listing the names of all members of the fire service, both structural and wildland, who have died in the line-of-duty since 1981. This year, BLM will honor Brian Hughes, a National Park Service Arrowhead Interagency Hotshot Captain who died on the California Ferguson Fire in 2018. Photo by Raphael Evans, BLM. |
