The soundboard is often called the 'top-plate', for example.)Acoustic guitars aim to optimise the acoustic coupling between the vibrating strings and the air occupied by the audience. (Before electrical amplification, the "exponentially shaped" sound horns of gramaphone players performed the same task.) The strutting on the inside of the sound board needs to be designed to minimise certain resonances, which can cause relative unintended variations in sound intensity, dependent on the pitch of the notes played.The guitars featured in this set are made by the major UK luthier, Tanglewood.The dis-assembled guitar featured here is a different, much older, one from the more polished whole guitar replacement featured in other parts of this set. No "perfectly good" new guitars were harmed in the making of these images..
