| 説明 | This is the famous Piazza San Marco in Venice, also known as St Mark's Square.The section closer to the Bacino di San Marco is the Piazzetta San Marco.These are the columns of San Marco.At the front (waterside) entry to Venices main square, one of them toped with a large statue of the Lion of St. Mark .This one is the Lion of St Mark, although it is thought to be in fact a Hellenistic work, possibly from a tomb in Cilicia or Tarsus.These columns served as a ceremonial entrance to the city. Gambling was permitted in the space between the columns; this right is said to have been granted as a reward to the man who first raised the columns. It was also the site of public executions.I was a bit to close to the column to get the lion from here. |
