| 説明 | At the far end of the Karen long neck village was a chicken coop of sorts with a timber storage shed at the far end, on a raised platform. Note also the bottles of drinking water stored in the horizon. I noticed only women in the Karen village, and asked my guide where the menfolk were. Out in the fields, was his reply. The Karen here are actually refugees from neighbouring Burma, those who fled that country to escape poverty and persecution. Although the Thai government has offered them shelter, they place severe restrictions on their movements. Tourism remains a major source of income for the Karen. But the tanks of water in the distance and the tractors etc. that they own (see one of the subsequent pictures late rin this album) is probably indication that they are not entire cut off from the rest of Thailand.(Chiang Rai, north Thailand, Oct. 2018) |
