| 説明 | "5 May 1943Dear Dad:It has been a long time since my last letter, but I’ve been so busy, during the day, that I’ve found it impossible to write. The lack of adequate lighting facilities prohibit the practice of nocturnal attempts to dash off a letter.Quite a bit has happened since my last letter. We were finally relieved and I was promoted. To me the latter was more important than the factor that we are back among civilized people again. As usual censorship prohibits us from mentioning where we are, but the people are white, the food excellent, and the liquor very scarce. If it was not for the fact that we are working as hard as ever, one would scarcely know that a war was being fought. In fact I haven’t listened to the War News, on the radio, for nearly a month. (Pardon the rotten penmanship, but my hands are rather stiff.)"From the Edward L. Parke Collection (COLL/5627) at the Archives Branch, Marine Corps History Division OFFICIAL USMC PHOTOGRAPH |
