Video: BLM Lakeview Crew 7Firefighters ignited about 360 acres of ponderosa pine forest Monday in the Fremont-Winema National Forest. The controlled fire, south of Oregon Route 138 and west of Diamond Lake, helps maintain forest health and also reduces the amount of burnable fuel for the upcoming wildfire season.Prescribed fires only happen when conditions are right—temperature, humidity, wind speed—and when approval is obtained from the Oregon Department of Forestry for smoke impact. The fire was a joint effort with the Fremont-Winema National Forest and the BLM Lakeview District Office.The BLM Lakeview Crew 7 is an interagency hotshot firefighter crew comprised almost entirely of U.S. military veterans.
